Two-Piece Pouches
|
Is the Floating Flange on Hollister New Image two-piece products only for use in the hospital?
 |
| |
No. A person can certainly continue to use the Floating Flange after being discharged from the hospital. The Floating Flange is secure, offers great flexibility, and some people find it easier to use because they can get their fingers under the flange to attach a pouch. In the hospital, the Floating Flange is ideal, because it minimizes pressure on a patient's tender abdomen after surgery. |

I've been using the same ostomy product since I first had my surgery. Should I try something new?
 |
| |
Probably. Advances continue to be made in ostomy products, in both materials and design. There are a variety of new products that you can try, which may contribute to your sense of comfort and confidence. |

How often should I empty my pouch?
 |
| |
The type of ostomy and amount of output will influence how often is necessary. You will want to empty your pouch regularly throughout the day -- usually when it is 1/3 to 1/2 full. It is not a good idea to let your pouch overfill. |

I am still using the same style of pouch I used when I was in the hospital. Is that OK?
 |
| |
Your requirements for a pouching system may have changed over time — your stoma may change, your body contours may change, your activity level may change or your preference may change. For example, now you may be able to wear a skin barrier that is smaller, a skin barrier opening that is pre-sized or a pouch that is opaque. |
