Healthy skin helps make life better
The condition of the skin around your stoma greatly affects how well the skin barrier can adhere, as well as your comfort and quality of life. Maintaining healthy peristomal skin from the start is our ultimate goal. The skin around your stoma should look just like the skin on the other side of your abdomen, or anywhere else on your body.

The role of moisture in healthy skin
When you remove your ostomy barrier, cells from the outermost layer of skin are also removed with it. The loss of these protective cells allows more moisture from inside your body to escape into the environment. This is called transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Increased rates of water loss can make the skin more vulnerable to damage and peristomal skin complications.
